British Art & Design (1851-1951)

Tutor: Edward Bruce
Wednesday 2.30–4.30
Term starts 11th January 2012

The course will explore the beginnings of modernity in British art with a look at the art and design of the Industrial Revolution, followed by an investigation of the new ideas in British art and design that were embodied by the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood, the Gothic Revival and the Arts and Crafts Movement. The course will then continue from the beginning of the twentieth century, with a look at the Garden City movement and the British artists of the early part of the century. The course is aimed at those who like looking at and discovering art through lectures, discussion and field trips.
